False Claim Case Settled for $155 Million

eClinicalWorks one of the largest providers of electronic medical records has just settled a false claim case with the Department of Justice in the amount of $155 million. The press release stated that ECW misrepresented its software capabilities while also providing kickbacks for the promotion of their product. ECW falsely received certification for its EHR (Electronic Health Record) software by manipulating the data for standardized drug codes resulting in the submission of false claims for federal incentive payments that are received for compliance with EHR standards.

In addition to paying the fine to the federal government, ECW was also required to participate in a five year integrity agreement where an independent entity will oversee and audit ECW’s quality control systems and report their findings to the OIG.
